Re: Trouble with ties

Oh, I suppose you just moved the anchors...! Dorico has a variety of S-shaped options in the properties for Slurs, and they're not included for Ties.

Re: Trouble with ties

Many thanks, all. It's an organ part, rather than piano, btw.

I think I rather like the S-curve, though sadly, Dorico doesn't offer that for ties, only slurs; the LV ties would also work, though I'd prefer a longer tie that was 'erased' where it got in the way.

Trouble with ties

Can anyone suggest the best way to draw a tie in this situation? Screenshot 6.png It's essentially the same issue in both staves of a keyboard part. Is this as good as I'm going to get? To me eye, if both ties (across both bars) are not the same, they don't look like a continuation of the same thing...

Re: I need a flat symbol!

Arial, Courier New, Lucida Sans, MS Reference Sans Serif and Times New Roman are common fonts that include musical symbols Note my use of the word "decent". Here's Arial's Sharp: Screenshot 3.png It doesn't have a flat, nor natural. It does have two other music characters: a single quaver...

Of course. That's probably the one!

I'll show you the results in due course. It's a very silly idea to score the organ part of a 'choral classic' for full orchestra...!

"only" forte?

I'm writing a piece for orchestra, and I want to discourage the brass section from being too loud.... I was wondering how to convey 'only forte' -- implying "save something for later" -- but of course "solo forte" might be misinterpreted as a "solo" (and therefore stand...

Re: I need a flat symbol!

You'll have to use a different font for that character. However, 'matching' a flat symbol to am industrial Grotesque (in the nicest possible sense!) font like Impact is not going to be easy. Very few text fonts have (decent) accidentals in the normal Unicode positions (U + 266D to F): you'll have to...

Re: Dorico development issue

Gould may be the default, but Dorico does have options for many other standards and conventions, including Far Eastern, Russian and others. Daniel has frequently accommodated a variety of styles, usually in response to examples of published materials. The important thing is: are you able to configur...

Re: PPP

In the first quarter of the 18th century, dynamics were usually restricted to piano and forte, with the occasional pp. Other terms and symbols were used, such as shapes filled in to varying degrees. (Performers would of course provide their own dynamic performance practices, e.g. playing a repeated ...

Re: Dorico v Finale advice?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not particularly a fan of most of their videos. I think I'm just too impatient to sit through an hour long video to find the 30 seconds of relevant info, when I could have skimmed and read it in a tiny fraction of that time. At the very least, most of the...
