Golden Age: SMuFL version

Post by benwiggy »

Another day, another music font....

I've just completed a SMuFL version of the handwritten font, Golden Age. (I've been in touch with the original creator, Don Rice.)

I say 'completed', though I've had a bit of trouble with bounding boxes on Windows, cropping the glyphs, but think I've sorted it out.

Cleverly, I've been able to use one font for both the handwritten text and music (because SMuFL doesn't use the text character slots). The original font came with two separate Text fonts. While you could of course continue to use those: I've combined the two, added more diacritics and other characters, improved the kerning, and tidied up the Unicode character slots. (Some chars were in the wrong places.)

I've just published a v1.003 release: this has added some Finale-specific glyphs to reduce the number of missing glyphs in Finale's Articulation Manager.

Particularly: trills with accidentals. You may be interested to know that Dorico uses combined glyphs for these; the SMuFL standard also suggests ligatures; but Finale Maestro has gone with private glyphs for these. Oddly, none of these are to be found in any of the Finale-bundled handwriting fonts.
