The Stravigor?

Post by benwiggy »

I've heard it said that Igor Stravinsky invented this wheeled rastrum, so he could write staff lines on any paper. The outbreak of WW1 meant he didn't patent it.

I owned one of these in the 70's. I might still have it - buried somewhere.

It was fine for sketching but you couldn't use it on onion skins because the ink wasn't dark enough. Even on paper, the staff lines were rather thick and uneven.

Beethoven would have loved it and covered every square inch of his apartment with it. As a freshman in college, my buddy had one and I would borrow it to put examples in essays. It definitely required a knack.

Not to mention Schubert. Most likely he'd written 10 symphonies if he'd had that.

That is a great tool, and I would like to have it (Stravigor), but not so large staff size though.
Here is another "thing", a simple idea, but not something I would like to have.

Stravigor seems more clever.
