What are your thoughts on accents and staccatissimos in the staff? I was looking through the Schirmer Manual of Style and Usage and they said they consider the articulations to be part of the notehead and their house style is to place them in the staff if need be, under the same conditions a staccato or tenuto would be.

Re: Accents in the staff
I prefer the accents close to the noteheads and on the staff when necessary. I place the wedges a fourth away from the noteheads, so they would be bisecting lines or in the spaces in some cases.

Re: Accents in the staff
I prefer accents outside the staff, especially when there are several in a row over changing pitches. Other articulations, IMO, are OK within the staff.
I understand Schirmer's reasoning, and in their particular example it makes sense, but in general they are more legible outside the staff.

Perhaps this thread should be consolidated with the other one.
