Sorry for the site being offline.

All data is saved.

The hosting provider discovered a critical bug in the control panel (cPanel) that could have allowed any user to log in as the admin.  The service was shut down immediately, and they spent several days trying to fix it.  (https://www.namecheap.com/status-update ... l-27-2026/)

The hosting provider has been quite unprofessional.  I was first notified by Magnus Johansson on Tuesday that the site was down, when I attempted to fix it.  The next day, David Ward sent a notification that the domain was up but showing a different site (for food!!), which has now been resolved.  Today, I spent almost two hours getting it back up and running.

I am definitely going to move to another hosting provider.  Anyone who is good at this is welcome to contact me!

Chrome is still showing the 404 error but seems to be OK in the Edge browser.

Yes, the browser's cache must be cleared, if you want to speed it up.

Thank you very much OCTO for spending so much time on this. It's wonderful to have notat.io back.

I had to clear the cache or cookies (or something, I'm no expert) to get back onto the site, but I'm safely here now…

It seems that the whole NameCheap hosting is what it says. phpBB application is not a rocket science and should work flawlessly. Once I get clear from deadlines, we will move to an another server, more serious.

Currently, in my Chrome environment, I can't directly access the site via bookmarks as before. The site automatically redirects to the error page "cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi", even after clearing the cache.

However, if I search for "notatio" directly from Chrome's homepage and click the first result, I can successfully enter the site and perform subsequent actions, including logging in.


Update: Everything works fine in Incognito mode, so I think it's an issue with my environment. After trying several times to disable cache via F12 → Network with no success, I kept that setting enabled and restarted Chrome for the first time. Now everything is running as expected.

Interestingly, CPDL is also suffering an outage due to problems with their hosting.

It seems that a major vulnerability issue has been identified in cPanel and WHM, which are the software packages that our hosting provider (Bluehost) installed to allow us to manage the main CPDL server. For this reason the hosting provider has set the server offline to prevent unauthorized access and to apply the necessary security patches.
