Line/Slur/etc. settings for Dorico
Hi folks,
Using the information in this forum, I updated Finale's defaults for lines and slurs (etc.) and have really enjoyed the look it has given my works.
Since moving to Dorico, I haven't checked "beneath the hood" but I am now working on completing my first score.
Question: has anyone gathered good defaults for Dorico's lines/slurs? Out of the box the slurs in particular look very voluminous.

Great suggestion! Here are my current Dorico slur settings. But they are still a work-in-progress:
M1 Mac mini (OS 12.4), Dorico, Finale 25.5, GPO 4, Affinity Publisher 2, SmartScore 64 Pro, JW Plug-ins, TG Tools, Keyboard maestro

Thanks @John Ruggero ! I appreciate the time you took to put these together.
I'll pop these in and take a look.
EDIT: NICE! These settings are a big improvement, John! Thank you for sharing.

You are very welcome, hautbois baryton. I am glad that they are working for you. Please let me know if you make improvements, and I'll try them out. I haven't changed any of the Dorico line settings, which so far have looked pretty good to me. I did change many of the glyphs since I prefer Maestro.

Hi, regarding this, I haven't yet figured out how changes are applied program or project wide; in engraving options, I’ve seen the Save as Default. Will that work for all the menu items I change or must be activated for each one? The reset and remove, affect every option changed in all items, or is it in a case by case basis?
The same question applies for notation options, individual changes to some glyphs, can they be global program changes?

The Save As Default button applies to all the Engraving Options. You can save defaults for Layout Options (score & parts), Notation Options, and all the other options (playback, Note input... etc!)
Similarly, you can save changes to Paragraph Styles, Notehead Sets, Music Symbols, etc as defaults, and they will be available to new documents.
There's also the Library Manager, which lets you pick and choose which settings to copy from one document to another.

I now see that in order for those changes to take effect, I must save at least one project!
For in order to change anything in the library menu, a project must be on screen, and if not saved, no library changes are kept.

Thanks a lot, John. I have borrowed your settings and I've noticed a marked improvement in my score.John Ruggero wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024, 18:59 Great suggestion! Here are my current Dorico slur settings. But they are still a work-in-progress:
Would you mind posting your settings for ties as well?

You are welcome, Harpsichordmaker. Here are the tie settings, but I can't remember how much actual adjusting I did to ties a while ago, so it might be pretty close to the default. In any case, they seem to be working fairly well. Please let me know if you make improvements:

Re: Line/Slur/etc. settings for Dorico
Again thank you so much. Most of your settings are the same than mine, or maybe it is just the default. But I am puzzled by:
Gap after flags: -3/4 spaces.
I wonder if this could make the tie crash against the flag. I have copied all of your settings when different from mine, and I am going to try this one.
