I do this also, as I've explained in previous threads on this topic. My reasoning is exactly what tisimst is arguing on behalf of Bravura.

Perhaps there's something to be said for the perceived equality in width between horizontal and vertical lines; for most people, horizontal lines are perceived as thicker than vertical lines. On the other hand, while this is a common principle in font design, it isn't very noticeable in a music score.

That said, if you really wanted your staves and stems to be exactly the same thickness, you would probably need to go with slightly thicker stems than staff lines. Traditionally, though, at least to my estimation, most plate engraved scores have it the other way around, which is one reason why I apply it in my own scores.
