Re: Preparing choir parts for a vocal work

I don't have those handy: what staves are included in those? Both soloists, choir, and piano reduction (a)? Only choir and piano (b)? Only choir (c)? If (c), does the pianist get another part, possibly (a)? If (b), do soloists sing from the full score? They are complete scores for all the voices, w...

Re: Preparing choir parts for a vocal work

Reason to ask is that, for a 70-min work, the vocal score could be north of 200 pages, which may be very cumbersome. Vocal Score of the Matthew Passion (Baerenreiter) is 270pp. Novello Messiah is 258pp. 200pp at 80gsm is 500g. Singers are used to it -- though "folder shoulder" is a recogn...

Re: Avid lays off Sibelius Senior Designer

That's tragic. Interesting to know if there are any more such 'eliminations'. We can only speculate about internals, but I would presume that to save money, they've given overall responsibility to someone else (who is likely in charge of something else as well), meaning that Sibelius will be a secon...

Rastrum time

For Christmas, I inherited a box of pen nibs, which included these two rastrums.

Begone the work-a-day drudgery of drawing staff lines!

Re: The End of FINALE

Are we seeing more Finale users migrate to Musescore than to Dorico? I don't think we (the public) are likely to get the data on that. How many active users of Finale were there? The Dorico "move to Finale" videos, linked in the sunset announcements, have only received c. 23K views. What ...

Re: Working in Dorico!

Yes, I'd agree -- I rarely do *any* manual adjustment of staves. Happy to look over a sample score and advise.

Re: Dorico 5.1.60 update!

I have +/- octave buttons on my MIDI keyboard, and I'm constantly pressing them to set the relative octave. I play high Treble lines with my left hand at the bottom of the keyboard! I'm surprised it's such a big deal. I'm itching to see what's in Dorico 6 -- though no doubt if it's too soon, we'll g...

Re: Dorico 5.1.60 update!

... and another: the 5.1.70 update. Mostly bug fixes. Possibly of interest are a new option to play octaves transposing instruments at written pitch (I think :???:); also the tuplet popover "self-populates" with 3, when appropriate, so you can just press Enter to get a triplet of the curre...

Well, they've bought Hal Leonard, too, so they have the rights owned by one of the largest music publishers, and MuseScore is rapidly becoming the de facto standard for digital sheet music.
