Dorico 6.1 released

Dorico 6.1 has been released.

Perhaps the main notation features are the ability to edit the position of rests on condensed staves; and an Engraving Option to put key and time signatures after repeat barlines instead of between them. There's also an option to increase the length of ties at the start of system.

In addition, there's a new piano sample library, Etude Elements.

there seems to be (from my reading of comments on the Dorico forum) some sort of issue with piano pedal placement? Related to the new feature about being able to align pedals through a measure.

Yes, there does look to be a rough edge here. However, as usual the team are looking at it; and I'd be surprised if there wasn't a .10 update to fix this in due coures.

Do you know anything about some part of this called ‘Etude Elements’? I downloaded and thought I installed this as part of what seemed to be on offer for 6.1; but when I opened Dorico itself I was told Etude E was absent and that I should download it. I tried the download again, but there was the same message. When I checked by clicking on the appropriate arrow in ‘Steinberg Download Assistant’ Etude Elements did not seem to be all there, so I deleted what was. After that, when I opened Dorico again I was no longer told Etude E was absent (although it was).

I still haven't started using Dorico… Although I know I really must try to get going with it. My age is the problem, I'm due to be 85 in late February (assuming I'm still around), which makes the challenge seem much more daunting than my protracted struggles with Finale twenty five years ago. There's always manuscript, of course.

The Dorico licence needs to be refreshed from the licence servers to include the authorization for the new content. You may need to open Steinberg Activation Manager and shift-click on the "Refresh" button (the circular arrow icon). Then you should see the content in the Download Assistant.

Etude Elements is a nice piano instrument for the HALion player. (I still prefer Garritan CFX Lite, though!)

Thank you, it is now correctly installed. I have to admit that if I'd been paying attention and had read yesterday's Scoring Notes newsletter properly, I would have been able to discover this without posting about it here. I hope I'm not beginning to show signs of senility…
